The As One Foundation, through its charitable community-based programs, endorses the educational and spiritual development of our youth into productive and caring global citizens. We support, encourage, and reward students who exemplify outstanding extra curricular talent, good character, high achievement, and service to community.  The Foundation’s Scholarship Program has established the Devard and Devaughn Darling Scholarship Award to recognize Fort Bend Independent School District seniors with these qualities and immediate collegiate goals for the fall or spring following high school graduation.

One to ten students will be selected, each to receive one thousand dollars ($1000) toward their educational expenses during the fall or spring semester of this year. This one time award is intended for student’s educational expenses – tuition, living expenses, books or required fees – and does not have to be repaid.

The selection committee will review all application material and award recipients based on program selection criteria. Students who meet the following award eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply.


 

Selection Criteria

The Scholarship Selection Committee will award recipients using the following criteria:

  • Academic achievement and critical-thinking ability
  • Breadth of interests, activities, and community involvement
  • Will to succeed and desire to help others

 

Award Eligibility

To be eligible student must:

  • Be a Fort Bend Independent School District high school senior
  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA (4.0 Scale)

 

Application Guidelines

To be reviewed for selection, applicant must submit a complete packet to include the following:

  • Application;
  • Official Transcript – Mailed to address listed below;
  • Letters of Recommendation (2) – Completed by a counselor, coach, teacher, or employer;
  • Resume – including educational goals, career objectives, work experience, volunteer service;
  • Essay – typed 250 words or more on one (1) of the topics provided on the application;
  • Applicant name and high school should be placed on all material.

The 2017 Application is now open. The winners of the 2016 Devard & Devaughn Darling Scholarship listed below were all worthy recipients and this year’s applicants will be held to the same rigorous standards as previous award winners.

Submit your application for the 2017 Devard & Devaugh Darling Scholarship Award.

Application Due:  May 31, 2017
Application and official transcript must be submitted and postmarked on or before 2017 deadline. Winners will be notified no later than June 30, 2017.

Acceptance Letter Due: July 31, 2017
Upon selection, in order for funds to be distributed, student must be submit college/university admissions/acceptance letter for the fall or spring semester with school accounts receivable mailing information on or before July 31, 2017.

All applications and supporting documents become the property of the As One Foundation, a 501(c) and, as such will not be returned. The Foundation is not responsible for loss, or damage of materials. To ensure a fair and objective review process, the Foundation does not comment on the selection committee’s deliberations. Recipient may use award at institution of his/her choice. In the event recipient does not enroll in college/university at time of selection, award becomes void. Award is not transferable or redeemable for cash. Award winners and respective high school will be notified. By submitting an application, the applicant accepts the conditions of the As One Foundation Scholarship Program.
